Book review: “Il problema mente-corpo e i neuroni specchio”
By Nicola Simonetti
Most probably the Mind-Body problem is one of the oldest question we ask ourselves as humans, and it will remain unanswered in a complete way still for long time even though cognitive neuroscience is making big steps in recent years. The book shows the several, not all, approaches to this problem from the Dualism Cartesian like point of view up to the extreme Physicalism point of view, and many intermediate and lateral positions. All such discussion is complemented with a review of the discovery of the mirror neurons and all the debate if and how and how much they are connected to our consciousness.
A nice book for even a newbie in the field for getting a wide overview. The writing style is sometimes a bit repetitive and redundant with some philosophical lexicon that could be avoided.
