Book review: “Il Mahabharata”

By Jean-Marie Michaud, Jean-Claude Carrière

What makes a graphic novel a masterpiece? Terrific illustrations, and here we have them! An incredible story, and again here it is!
The poem appears so complex just from this graphic novel, so I can’t image the original one! For Occidental people this could be a first step in understanding Indian culture, myths, religion.
Interesting a couple of drawing references to Escher and J.S. Bach; in that way the authors put some Occidental ingredients in the Oriental poem maybe underlying the universality and beauty of some aspects of human life.
